Leslie.Segal@Scorevolunteer.org

Leslie Segal brings a unique blend of technology expertise, entrepreneurial success, and real-world real estate experience to her volunteer work with SCORE.
With a strong foundation in engineering, she began her career working for several technology companies before founding and growing her own software testing firm, Testware Associates, Inc. There were no eCommerce companies when Testware was started, and she found that constantly adapting to and being ahead of the technology changes was critical for Testware’s success. For more than two decades, she helped companies improve the quality of their products by identifying problems before launch—a role that required precision, patience, and a sharp eye for detail.
After successfully selling her business and guiding the transition to new ownership, Leslie began a second career in real estate. She earned her license, helped clients purchase homes, and gained firsthand experience as both a property owner and landlord. Her practical knowledge of buying, financing, renovating, and managing properties gives her valuable insight into the opportunities and challenges of real estate ownership.
PASSION FOR HELPING OTHERS
Today, Leslie is especially passionate about helping others build financial confidence. She enjoys teaching the fundamentals of budgeting, preparing a personal financial statement, improving financial readiness, and understanding the path to homeownership. Whether working with first-time buyers or those seeking greater financial stability, Leslie’s goal is to help people make informed decisions and build long-term wealth.
EDUCATION:
B.S. Electrical Engineering, Virginia Tech
M.S. Computer Science, Stevens Institute of Technology
FUN FACT
Leslie loves to cook, and after selling her business, she started designing and building gingerbread houses. She also became a recipe tester for America’s Test Kitchen and has tried many different cuisines. One of the more interesting recipes she recently made was Suugo Suqaar (Somali Meat Sauce with Pasta), served with sliced bananas on top, and truly delicious.
… and AN AMAZING STORY
Leslie was among the first on-site teams after the nuclear accident at Three Mile Island. Her job was to track the core probe temperatures, which would indicate when the core reached a stable state of natural circulation. When she called to let management know that everything finally looked stable, they insisted on speaking with a man. As the only one on shift, Leslie convinced the janitor cleaning the hallway to join the call. After telling the janitor what to say, management finally believed the results. When Time magazine came a couple of days later to photograph President Carter visiting the plant, they asked Leslie to leave the control room because they didn’t want any women in the picture.
